I discovered to my surprise that if two people have no common interests set in the questionnaire then they cannot write to each other unless they had a previous conversation before the change. I honestly can't see the purpose of this and haven't seen anything like it on other sites however it works well if you found someone and you don't want too much attention to switch to virtual relationship/language learning.
