I do not agree on that statement, that most European men only speak their native language... Perhaps if you go to southern part of Europe, then that becomes more of an viable statement, but fx. our youth get a very wide diversity of languages taught from 1st grade all the way up through the educational system.
We speak fluently Faroese, Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian, English and German languages, and that is part of the integral European school system that the languages of the north are taught.
