It happens in South Africa as well, but the law over here is very protective of women and children, we even have a standing committee in Parliament and a Ministry devoted to it. The Minister of Women, Children and people with disability proposed a law and it was passed by Parliament that gives men that abuse their wive and or children jail time, the wive doesn't even need to complain at the police, a neighbor or family member can complain and the man will be locked up. So the wide spread occurrence of this is strange and alarming.
