The translator can be extremely hilarious or completely opposite which can cause innumerable problems. Adding or removing a not in a sentence completely changes the meaning! So knowing enough of the language and having several opportunities for different translations is a good back-up if you are serious in communicating with someone who is not fluent in your own language. I was able to tell right away when one girl wrote me that she had just put mint ice cream on her face before getting ready for bed, what she really meant, and it was quite funny to share with her.
