My thoughts: The key word here is love. If you truly love someone, is there any better way to say, "I love you!" than to give yourself to them and they give themselves to you? Marriage is a pledge; a promise; a covenant. Nothing exposes the lack of true love more than telling the one you claim to love, "I'm sorry dear, but I can't make you any promises about our future."
