You have received so many answers, suggestions, (good and bad) advice, so let me make a contribution by asking you questions:
1) have you ever thought of sitting down and discussing your situation with him? Do you understand his motivation, his worries and concerns?
2) by what right or duty is he or would he be 'obliged' to take care of your financial situation? what is the basis of your expectation?
3) are material and financial aspects decisive for you in a relationship? If so, then maybe you ought to make that clear from the beginning.
Maybe you want to ask questions yourself, before you haphazardly jump to conclusions (like calling him a penny pincher). By the way you describe your meeting(s) he was very generous towards you, but that is only what I see from a distance. Personally I would be startled at such a request (to help somebody out financially), especially at the beginning of a relationship.
