Traditionally the men have always been 'the hunters' whereas the women are 'gatherers'. There are cultural (mentality), social (matriarchal-partiarchal structures) and personal (experience, education) factors involved.

It is impossible to say what the right approach is.

I prefer to think: "what do I have to lose?" If I write and get no response, it is status quo ante - everything is as it was (as if I had never written). If I write, I automatically increase my chances by 50%. Everything else depends on the other.
